Retrotransposon mapping in spider monkey genomes of the family Atelidae (Platyrrhini, Primates) shows a high level of LINE-1 amplification
2022
To investigate the distribution of LINE-1 repeat sequences, a LINE-1 probe was Fluorescence In Situ Hybridized (FISH) on the chromosomes of Ateles geoffroyi and Ateles fusciceps (Atelidae); a LINE-1 probe was also mapped on Cebuella pygmaea (Cebidae) and used as an outgroup for phylogenetic comparison. Ateles spider monkeys have a highly rearranged genome and are an ideal model for testing whether LINE-1 is involved in genome evolution. The LINE-1 probe has been mapped in the two Atelidae species for the first time, revealing a high accumulation of LINE-1 sequences along chromosomal arms, including telomeres, and a scarcity of LINE-1 signals at centromere positions. LINE-1 mapping in C. pyg…
Immuno-oncological treatment of Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) in advanced stage with Nivolumab
2023
Immuno-oncology marked a therapeutic revolution in the treatment of cancer. Thanks to the new strategy that aims to awaken the immune system to fight cancer cells, there has been a change in the clinical course in the treatment of advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). Our study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of nivolumab monotherapy in the treatment of patients with advanced stage IIIB/IV non-small cell lung cancer beyond the second line. The results showed a progression-free survival of 7.35 months and an improvement in the quality of life of patients compared to other treatments. In addition, no type 3 and type 4 adverse reactions were detected in patients treated with …

The role of Leptin in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
2017
Leptin is a peptide produced by peptidergic cells or those able to process and secrete peptides. Originally, this function was considered proper and exclusive of certain neurons of the magnocellular and parvicellular hypothalamus. These cells originated from a common precursor, namely neural crest cells, which have the ability to produce hormonal neuropeptides. From this primitive neuroectodermal site, cells migrate to other organs: the gastro-entero-pancreatic system (GEP), the lung, heart, reproductive and urinary systems. Leptin is considered the typical neuropeptide with an anorexic function, and is also called the âsatiety hormoneâ because it plays a key role in the control of ener…

Self-conscious robotic system design process-from analysis to implementation
2011
Developing robotic systems endowed with self-conscious capabilities means realizing complex sub-systems needing ad-hoc software engineering techniques for their modelling, analysis and implementation. In this chapter the whole process (from analysis to implementation) to model the development of self-conscious robotic systems is presented and the new created design process, PASSIC, supporting each part of it, is fully illustrated. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
